CHARLOTTE, N.C. — While officials in western North Carolina continue their efforts to get back up and running many people are missing work because of their situations.
So many are wondering if they can get unemployment if they can't get to work.
The short answer to this is yes. You can qualify for unemployment if you are in any of these counties that have been declared a state of emergency.

Disaster unemployment assistance is a federal program that provides temporary payments for people who as a direct result of a disaster are out of work-
Here are some scenarios that would qualify you for the aid:-
- No longer have a job that provides the primary source of income
- People unable to reach their place of unemployment
- Or people who cannot work because of an injury caused by the storm.

The deadline to apply for this unemployment is December 2nd. If you live in Mecklenburg County that deadline is December 9th.
If you do qualify you will have to file a weekly certification each week and your eligibility will be determined weekly.
