(NEWSER) – Another for the angry cat files: A man in Stamford called 911 to report that he and his wife were too afraid of their cat to go inside their home, reports NBC Connecticut.

Mohammed Lokman placed the call about 1:30am, after the two of them had been stuck outside for hours.

A snippet from the call, via CBS New York:

Lokman: "The problem is my cat was getting too aggressive. I was inside and she attacked me, and she scratched me in my leg and bite me. So me and my wife, we come outside and now we cannot go in the home like for three, four hours."

Dispatcher: "OK, you said a cat?"

He did indeed. The dispatcher eventually sent police, reports Fox CT, and the couple got inside unscathed. "They were advised to stay away from each other the rest of the night," says a police statement.

All is once again calm in the household, and Lokman revealed in the call the likely reason for the cat's unusual behavior—it had given birth to a kitten the previous night. A local animal control officer tells CBS that she probably felt threatened by the Lokmans for some reason, so chalk it up to a "mom protecting its baby."

(Even affectionate cats can be dangerous, however. Watch those licks.)
