GASTON COUNTY, N.C. – Wildlife officials in Gaston County are investigating after a dead alligator was found in the Catawba River in Belmont.
Antonio Figueroa posted on Facebook that he was fishing with Amber Figueroa and Brian Law when they found the gator in the river.
“When our fishing day turns into this and we end up finding this guy,” Figueroa posted.
According to District 8 Wildlife Biologist Danny Ray, the gator was likely someone’s pet before it was dumped. Cody Walker with N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission said they are going to properly dispose of the gator’s body.
