CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Carolina Panthers linebacker Shaq Thompson has been named one of eight celebrity captains for the 2016 Triple-A Baseball Home Run Derby.

The derby kicks off the three-day All-Star Game weekend in uptown Charlotte on Monday, July 11. Thompson and the other seven celebrity captains will be sign autographs for fans in attendance on the field before the event.

The 2016 Triple-A Home Run Derby will feature eight sluggers, including two Charlotte-area high school players — Lake Norman High School’s Riley Zayicek and Trent Alley from Charlotte Country Day. Thompson is the second celebrity captain named to the event, joining former NFL player Jason Sehorn.

Thompson joined the Panthers after being chosen with the No. 25 pick in the 2015 NFL draft. In his rookie season, Thompson recorded 50 tackles and one sack. He was an All-American while playing at the University of Washington. He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 18th round of the 2012 MLB Draft, playing 13 games in the minor leagues.
