CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After defeating Frenshman Kevin Jousset in Paris in late September, Bryan "The Butcher" Battle made sure to soak in the boos from the hostile crowd.
"They weren't happy with it and they let me know it," Battle said. "I think they had as much fun as I did. So it was a good time."
The 30-year-old Maryland native moved to Charlotte during childhood where he was homeschooled, and eventually found his way into a gym where he took up MMA.
Now 11-2-0, he's a rising star in UFC's welterweight division with a path towards a championship.
The September win in Paris certainly helped.
"It was a statement," Battle said. "It's a really good performance against a tough guy in an atmosphere that not a lot of people thrive in. It was a big declaration to the rest of the welterweights to just let them know I'm here and I mean business."
Battle's next fight was announced Monday.
He will face Randy Brown on Dec. 7 in Las Vegas as part of UFC 310.
