ATLANTA, Ga. (INDEPENDENT MAIL) – Clemson's Deshaun Watson won the Davey O'Brien Award, which honors college football's best quarterback, at the ESPN College Football Awards on Thursday night.
Watson, who is also a finalist for this year's Heisman Trophy, was one of three finalists for the award along with Louisville sophomore Lamar Jackson – the presumptive Heisman favorite – and Oklahoma redshirt junior Baker Mayfield.
The Clemson quarterback is the first quarterback to win the Davey O'Brien Award in back-to-back years since Oklahoma's Jason White in 2003 and 2004.
Watson has completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 3,914 yards and 37 touchdowns, with 15 interceptions, in 13 games this year. He has also rushed for 529 yards and six touchdowns.
Watson was also one of four Clemson players to receive second-team All-American honors Thursday from the Walter Camp Foundation, along with redshirt junior wide receiver Mike Williams, sophomore defensive end Christian Wilkins and senior linebacker Ben Boulware.
