ATLANTA — A Charlotte resident and former professional baseball player is now golf's 2024 World Long Drive World Champion.
Sean Johnson, who played college baseball at Ole Miss and several seasons in independent baseball, smashed a 411-yard winning drive in the final to secure the championship belt at Eagles Landing Country Club outside Atlanta on Sunday.
Johnson who was 2023 runner-up, averaged 394 yards per drive and hit a long drive of 426 yards during the competition.
"It's something else," Johnson said. "It's hard to not get emotional about things like this. You work so hard. I took all of those failures and learned from them."
Johnson was the WLD 2022 Rookie Of The Year.
