CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The opening round of the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club on Thursday will be delayed due to rain.
The start of the first round is now set for 12 p.m. because of rain expected to move through the area in the morning and storms that already moved through the region, WCNC Charlotte's Ashley Stroehlein has learned.
Tournaments typically begin around 8 a.m.
The tee time was originally delayed until 11 a.m., then the further delay was announced Thursday morning.
Wyndham Clark is the defending champion. Masters champion and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is not playing because of the impending birth of his first child.
The PGA Tour has a color-coded weather policy for tournament play. Here’s what to expect if severe weather strikes.
Yellow is issued two hours ahead of heavy rain or thunderstorms to advise everyone to follow all instructions should the storms get closer to the course.
Orange is issued one hour in anticipation of heavy rain or storms at the course. Attendees should prepare to take shelter or exit the premises.
Red means play is suspended due to dangerous weather. Spectators must leave the course for their safety.
