Gastonia, NC - Forestview has been out to prove they are the best team in the 3A/2A Big South Conference. Friday night's 48-22 victory over Ashbrook may have made believers out of everybody.
The Green Wave had beaten the Jaguars five straight times and even led the 2014 meeting 9-0 in the third quarter. Forestview got going behind Moe Neal. His four yard run made it a 9-7 ball game. Ashbrook turned the ball over on it's next possession and Trell McCaskill made the Green Wave pay with a 50 yard fumble recovery and a 13-9 Jaguars advantage.
Ashbrook answered, when Jeff Glenn hit Z'Andre Givens. Givens did the rest, a zig, zag and dive for a 16-13 Green Wave advantage. Forestview answered again behind Neal. The Jaguars captain broke a big fourth down play for a 73 yard touchdown run. Forestview went in front 20-16 and never lost that lead.
"I believed in these guys and knew we could get it done tonight," said Neal afterwards. "It feels great to finally beat them after all these years."
The victory moves Forestview to 7-2 on the season and 5-0 in conference. Ashbrook drops to 4-5 overall, 3-2 in league play. The Jaguars travel to Hunter Huss next week. Ashbrook takes on Lake Norman Charter.
