WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — After a dominating season, the North Mecklenburg Vikings are once again state basketball champions.
The Vikings faced the Wildcats of New Hanover in Winston-Salem for the NCHSAA 4A title, leading for more than 30 minutes in the game thanks to Isaiah Evans. When the final buzzer hit, the Vikings were victorious with a 10-point lead, 57-47.
Evans also led all players who scored, hitting the net for 23 points and adding eight rebounds. He was named the Charlie Adams MVP for his performance.
Additionally, Chadlyn Traylor was named Most Outstanding Player for the West. He added 15 points on seven shots.
The Vikings' season finished with a 30-3 record. While they won their third title, it is only their second championship game; the last title saw them named Co-Champions as COVID-19 had shortened that season.
Rodmik Allen with the Wildcats was named Most Outstanding Player for the East, scoring 13 points and having a pair each of rebounds and steals. Parker Crittenden also led New Hanover in scoring with 14 points. Nolan Billing added 10 points and eight rebounds.
