CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Providence Day offensive lineman David Sanders Jr. has had quite the few months.
He helped the Chargers win their third-straight state championship.
Then, the 6-foot-7 left tackle was named the No. 1 recruit in his graduating class in the entire nation by Rivals.
This week, Sanders was named Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of North Carolina.
And he found that out while getting his drivers license at the DMV.
"I was jumping all of the place smiling ear to ear," Sanders said. "And it's quiet in there, so it was loud."
Sanders has 38 scholarship offers from major college programs as he wraps up his junior year of high school.
He told WCNC Charlotte how he approaches all of the attention and accolades.
"Honestly, you've just got to stay humble and stay grounded," Sanders said. "Stay hard working, thank the people that got you here and just keep working."
Sanders is the second-straight Charger to win NC Gatorade Player of the Year, after Michigan-bound QB Jadyn Davis did it in 2022.
