CHARLOTTE, N.C. – One of the most historic rivalries in Charlotte high school football will be on center stage this Friday night, when Myers Park and South Meck square off in the 2015 Patriotism Bowl.

The Patriotism Bowl is an annual game that benefits the Carolinas Freedom Foundation, Purple Heart Homes and Operation Homefront, and the USO. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at South Meck.

In addition to the game, both schools will encourage patriotism and show support for U.S. veterans, active military, and their families. The Firebird's skydiving exhibition is always a crowd pleaser before the game, and there will be close to a dozen military displays and flight simulators around the stadium.

The rivalry between South Meck and Myers Park began in 1960, when South Meck was founded, just five years after Myers Park. The 2015 game will be the 55th meeting between the two schools.

In keeping with Patriotism Bowl history, there will be a surprise coin toss guest. Last year, the coin toss guests were Elijah Hood of Charlotte Catholic and Marquise Williams of Mallard Creek, each representing their alma maters. Mallard Creek defeated Catholic 40-21 after lightning delayed the conclusion of the game on a stormy Friday.

Tickets are currently on sale at South Meck High School and Myers Park High School for $8.
