CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The "W" doesn't stand for Win… it stands for Warrior. As in, the Weddington Warriors. According to MaxPreps, Weddington is an impressive 11-1-1 on the season, nationally ranked in the Top 25 and is the fifth-best-team in the state. Oh, and they're riding an equally impressive wave of 10 wins-in-a-row.
It's not just MaxPreps that is showing the love to the Warriors. Eurosportsscoreboard.com has WHS in their top spot of their latest polls.
Coming off their big win over then ranked number one Jess C Carson, the Warriors have beaten their last two opponents a combined 13-1, including last night's opponent Cuthbertson.
The Cavaliers made it clear they were looking to take down WHS early. Kobi Sonsire, junior, scored three minutes into the first half.
WHS responded quickly. The Warriors scored two goals within a minute. Before the clock struck 10:00 minutes, Ethan McClain, senior, and Christina Fulton, junior, found the back of the net to make the score 2-1.
WHS finished off the first half strong when Chris O'Grady, senior, ran the length of the field and passed it to Ethan McClain, senior, who one timed it to the back of the net.
WHS put the game out of reach when Chris O'Grady scored two second half goals. Final score WHS 5 CAVS-1.
The Cavaliers dropped to 3-5-3 and 0-1 in conference play while the Warriors are 1-0 in conference play.
The Warriors are at home on September 24 when they take on Piedmont and then they travel to 4A Porter Ridge who is 9-1-1.
