STATESVILLE, N.C. -- The West Iredell High School Warriors earned its first sweep of the season Friday, defeating Pine Lake Prep 66-53 at home.
The Warriors opened the game the right away, opening up a nine-point lead following the first quarter. As the first half continued, it became apparent the Warriors' A.J. Peele was too much for Pine Lake to handle. The senior had a strong game, putting up 19 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, 8 of which gave West Iredell a second chance offensively.
After trailing 38-21 to open the second half, Pine Lake got off to a hot start in the second half, going on a quick 8-0 run to cut into West's lead. The Pride's offensive then hit a brick wall, struggling its way to just one more third-quarter basket. The slow third quarter would provide too much for Pine Lake to overcome, as West Iredell held on for a 13 point victory.
Two-sport star Montana David also reached double-figures for the Warriors, scoring 15 in the victory. Preston Harrison pulled down 6 defensive rebounds in the game.
