Hornets unveil new all-black "Buzz City" uniform

The Hornets unveiled an all-new "Buzz City" alternate uniform at their NBA Draft party.
The Hornets unveiled a new "Buzz City" alternate uniform just minutes before the NBA Draft.

The Charlotte Hornets today unveiled a new black, sleeved "Pride" uniform to be worn during the 2015-16 NBA season. The alternate uniform, which may be worn as many as six times during the season, features the words "Buzz City" on the front, along with the Buzz City logo on the waistband.

The phrase "Buzz City" on the chest appears in white with a teal outline, while the number on both the front and back, the player's name on the back and the Buzz City logo on the waistband are all in solid teal. The uniform features stripes in a teal-white-teal pattern on both sides that cross at the bottom of the shorts just below a teal silhouette logo.

Like the team's white home, purple road and teal alternate uniforms, the Pride uniform features the crossover-style V-neck collar and the logo on the waistband that were also used by the original Hornets.

"The Pride uniform is designated to celebrate something local to a team or region, and it was obvious to us that it needed to commemorate Buzz City," said Hornets Sports & Entertainment President & COO Fred Whitfield. "Buzz City is about the enthusiasm that our fans have for our team and our city, and this uniform allows us to put that feeling into a physical banner that our players display."

As with the team's home, road and alternate uniforms and its overall brand identity, the Pride uniform was designed in collaboration with senior executives within the Hornets organization; Jordan Brand, a division of Nike; and the NBA's Global Merchandising Group. Both Jordan Brand and Nike have a long history of working with professional teams and universities in developing brand identities and utilize some of the world's most highly recognized designers.

The uniforms are manufactured by adidas, the NBA's official uniform provider, and feature the Revolution 30 technology found in all current NBA uniforms that dries twice as fast as previous NBA uniforms. Additional features include the ClimaCool system with engineered body-mapped zones to provide maximum ventilation and comfort, as well as FORMOTION technology that reduces seams to optimize natural movement and decrease friction between the skin and the jersey. The engineered arm hole has 360-degree stretch fabric for range of motion that is on par with that of a standard tank jersey.

The uniform will be on display at the Hornets Fan Shop at Time Warner Cable Arena beginning tomorrow. Player name and number tees featuring the design of the new jerseys will be available for sale immediately at the Hornets Fan Shop.
