CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Fans of soccer and Charlotte sports now know the name of the next professional team in the Queen City.
Carolina Ascent FC will be the name for the women's professional soccer team in Charlotte in the USL Super League. The team announced its name, logo, and brand identity on Thursday after tentatively being named Super League Carolina ever since the team was announced last year.
Carolina Ascent's logo features mountains, the sun, and a soccer ball volleying across the emblem. Symbols from the flags of North Carolina and South Carolina are present on the logo -- a star from the North Carolina flag and a crescent moon from the South Carolina flag.
While the team has not released its jerseys or official color scheme for the inaugural season, the logo features shades of orange, blue, and purple.
The inaugural season of the USL Super League kicks off in August. Carolina Ascent FC is a charter member of the league, along with eight other teams. The league's creation was announced in May 2023.
Carolina Ascent FC will play its home games at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, which currently hosts games for USL League One's Charlotte Independence.
USL Super League leaders aim for the league to reach Division One standards and directly compete with the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL).
