CHARLOTTE, N.C. — NASCAR driver Conner Jones was given a one-week suspension for incidental contact during a race that sent another driver to the hospital.
Jones hit Matt Mills during the Baptist Health 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Saturday, sending his No. 42 Niece Motorsports Chevrolet into the wall. Mills' truck caught fire and was wrecked out of the race.
Mills spent two nights in the hospital for smoke inhalation. He was released from the hospital on Monday and is cleared to race this weekend at Martinsville.
Jones was given a two-lap penalty during the race and will miss the Martinsville race for violating NASCAR's code of conduct, according to a release.
Jones, 18, drives the No. 66 Ford for ThorSport Racing. He's raced in 12 of the 21 races this season with a best finish of 11th. Jones raced in the CARS Late Model Stock Tour before being in the truck series. He was suspended for rough driving after an incident in October 2023.
