CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A terrific rookie season for Charlotte Hornets forward Brandon Miller earned him a third-place spot on the NBA's Rookie of the Year list.
Miller was given 83 third-place votes and one second-place vote. A panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters votes for their top three rookies.
Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs unanimously won the Rookie of the Year award. Oklahoma City's Chet Holmgren took 98 second-place votes to secure that spot.
Miller was one of the few bright spots on an otherwise forgettable Hornets team in the 2023-24 season. The Alabama prospect averaged 17.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks per game. He was the only Hornets player to appear in over 70 games during his rookie season -- playing on the court in 74 games.
After a somewhat slow start to begin the season, Miller turned things on in January. He scored over 20 points in 10 of 12 games from Jan. 19 to Feb. 7 -- including a game against the Indiana Pacers where he put up a career-high 35 points.
Miller's mid-to-late season emergence earned him Rookie of the Month honors three times throughout the year.
The Hornets selected Miller with the second pick in the 2023 NBA Draft and were hopeful he could make an immediate impact -- and that's just what he did.
Charlotte struggled to a 21-61 record that ended with head coach Steve Clifford resigning from the team. The Hornets' new ownership group aims to push Miller, LaMelo Ball, and the remaining cast of young talent on the Charlotte roster in the right direction.
