CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Hornets fans have always been treated to watching their team wear some of the coolest threads in the NBA and now they will soon have a consensus on what the team's best uniform has been over the years.
The Hornets' uniform tournament reached its final round this week with only two uniforms left to choose from. The two uniforms battling for the title are the 1988-97 away uniform and the 1994-97 alternate uniform.
The tournament began at the beginning of the 2023-24 season with 32 different uniforms worn across franchise history, including some from the 10 years the team was known as the Charlotte Bobcats. The tournament is a part of the Hornets' 35th anniversary celebration.
Both of the uniforms in the final are absolute classics that resemble an era that made the Hornets known as fashion icons across the league.
1988-97 Away
Charlotte stuck with the same home and away uniforms for its first decade in the league. The team's teal and purple combo was an instant hit that was loved on the court and in stores on starter jackets and other merchandise. Some of the best players in Hornets history wore these uniforms, including Dell Curry, Larry Johnson, and Muggsy Bogues.
1994-97 Alternate
Charlotte added an alternate jersey in the mid-90s that swapped purple and teal to make the former the more dominant color. The result was a wicked 90s-esque look that was a hit amongst fans. Coincidentally, this uniform beat out the 1988-97 home uniform in the semifinal round.
Hornets fans can vote for which uniform they think is the best here.
