CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former Charlotte Hornets President and Vice Chairman Fred Whitfield was surrounded by sports legends on Monday night at Steak 48 in Charlotte, as he hosted his third-annual HoopTee Charities Celebrity Fundraiser.
The dinner supports Whitfield's non-profit organization, the "HoopTee Scholars Program," which has donated over $1 million in academic scholarships for students from underserved communities to attend private upper schools in Charlotte.
The fundraiser also assists Whitfield's Achievements Unlimited Basketball School.
Monday's dinner included Panthers legends Greg Olsen, Jonathan Stewart and Thomas Davis.
UNC football coach Mack Brown returned and the event was emceed by former Tar Heels basketball coach Matt Doherty.
NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace, LIV Tour golfer Harold Varner III, and retired NBA greats like Ron Harper, Charles Oakley and Ralph Sampson were also in attendance.
Whitfield served as Charlotte Hornets President and Vice Chairman for over 17 years before stepping down in December.
He cited his recent battle with throat cancer and supporting his mother, who is facing several health issues.
