Hornets bested in overtime by 76ers, 107-105

LaMelo Ball tied the game with seconds left in the fourth quarter, but the Hornets fell short in overtime

PHILADELPHIA — Jared McCain scored 27 points as the Philadelphia 76ers ended a six-game losing streak with an overtime win over the Charlotte Hornets.

Brandon Miller missed a 3-pointer with seven seconds left in overtime that would have given the Hornets (4-6) the lead. The Hornets had one more chance after a missed Philadelphia (2-7) free throw attempt but gaffed on the defensive rebound. The 76ers held on for the 107-105 win.

LaMelo Ball scored 16 of his 38 points in the fourth quarter, including a lean-away 3-pointer that tied the game and forced overtime. Charlotte trailed by as much as 16 points in the fourth quarter before mounting a comeback that put them ahead with three minutes left in regulation. 

In overtime, scores from McCain, Kyle Lowry, and Guerschon Yabusele put Philadelphia ahead for good.

Ball led the Hornets with 38 points on 13 of 30 shooting. Miller had 22 points. 

The 76ers were led by McCain with 27 points on 10 of 18 shooting. Former Hornets guard Kelly Oubre Jr. scored eight points for the 76ers.

Philadelphia led the dead-heat 46-45 at halftime. A 30-point third quarter put the 76ers ahead by double digits heading into the final period.

The loss ends the Hornets' modest two-game winning streak. Charlotte sits in a three-way tie for seventh in the Eastern Conference. 

Charlotte's next contest is on the road against the Orlando Magic (5-6) on Tuesday.
