Hornets PA announcer Pat Doughty dies, team says

"Big Pat" Doughty was the Hornets' PA announcer for nearly 20 years.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Hornets are mourning the loss of longtime PA announcer "Big Pat" Doughty.

Doughty's death was confirmed by the team on Wednesday. The team did not state the cause of Doughty's death.

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Pat Doughty, our beloved PA announcer for nearly 20 seasons," the Hornets said in a statement. "Big Pat’s vibrant voice was the backbone of our game experience and energized Spectrum Center every night."

Doughty's tenure with the team stretches back to when the team was known as the Charlotte Bobcats. 

"I'd do it for free," Doughty said in an interview with WCNC Charlotte in 2014. "It's the best job in the world."
