CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For the second straight year, Charlotte native and Hornets forward Grant Williams hosted a youth basketball camp in his hometown.
But the focus wasn’t just on the court, but in the classroom too.
Last week, 200 boys and girls from ages 8 to 16 took part in the camp, which included financial literacy sessions guided by professionals from Morgan Stanley’s Global Sports & Entertainment Division.
Topics included NIL, wealth-building and basic financial knowledge.
“Financial literacy is critical,” Williams said. “They take it back to their families. Sometimes their parents may not know what they’re learning. At a young age, it allows you to be informed and live your life in a better way, but it also allows you to help your family.”
The camp was held at Williams’ alma mater, Providence Day School, and is part of his Grant Williams Family Foundation, which “strives to close the inequity gap and remove obstacles for underserved students by providing invaluable resources and programs.”
Williams was traded to his hometown NBA franchise during the middle of last season and likes how the team and organization is shaping up for 2024-25.
“You can tell there’s a new life,” he said. “We had over 10 players at the Summer League games on the sideline supporting the team. We are trying to build something here, and I think that has been the commitment from everyone in the organization.”
