Thanksgiving meals going to a thousand Charlotte families in need

It's the 14th year for the Hornets' annual "Cornucopia" initiative.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Hornets helping to feed those in need ahead of the holiday season.

On Wednesday, the team partnered with Food Lion and the Second Harvest Food Bank to pack Thanksgiving meals. Players, coaches, and executives all joined volunteers to pack meals that will be sent to a thousand families within the Charlotte Mecklenburg School district.

It's the 14th year for the Hornets' annual "Cornucopia" initiative.

"In the team where there's need you identify it and step in to try and make a difference," Seth Bennett, the chief marketing officer for the Charlotte Hornets, said. "We all have to play a role in making Charlotte, Mecklenburg and the surrounding counties the best they can be."

Each meal feeds a family of four. and was includes a turkey, cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes. cut yams, sweet peas, corn, mac and cheese and cranberry sauce.
