Christian McCaffrey sets NFL record vs Atlanta

The second-year tailback broke Matt Forte's record for receptions by a running back in a single season. And he could join an elite list in the season finale.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — What a year it's been for Christian McCaffrey.

One week after setting a new Panthers franchise record for scrimmage yards in a single season, McCaffrey broke another record Sunday vs Atlanta. The second-year tailback surpassed Matt Forte's 2014 mark for most receptions ever for a running back in a season.

With one game left, McCaffrey now has 106 receptions. According to Panthers.com, last year's first-round pick is just 75 yards away from becoming just the 10th player in NFL history to hit the 2,000-yard mark in his first or second season. McCaffrey's 106 receptions are also the most for a Panther at any position in a single season.

His 12-catch performance against the Falcons also gave McCaffrey the franchise record for receptions by a running back. He has 186 career catches, eclipsing DeAngelo Williams' 178 receptions with the team. Run CMC is just the third player in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards and make 100 catches in a single season. (Pro tip: You'll want him on your fantasy team next year)
