Christian McCaffrey sets Panthers single-season record for yards

With a 9-yard run in the first quarter Monday night, Christian McCaffrey set a new Panthers record for scrimmage yards in a single season.

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — Christian McCaffrey ran his way into the Panthers' record book Monday night, setting a new record for scrimmage yards in a single season against New Orleans.

McCaffrey broke the mark set by DeAngelo Williams by a nine-yard run in the first quarter Monday. Williams' record of 1,636 scrimmage yards was set during the Panthers' 2008 season, with Williams rushing for 1,515 yards and tacking on 121 receiving yards.

McCaffrey has been a much more dangerous dual-threat weapon this season. In 14 games, the second-year running back has 979 rushing yards and 768 receiving yards with 13 total touchdowns. He already ranks 10th all-time in Panthers history for scrimmage yards and is second all-time in career receiving yards by a Panthers running back. McCaffrey is fourth in the NFL with 1,747 scrimmage yards this season.

Monday was the seventh straight game, and ninth this season, where McCaffrey finished with at least 100 scrimmage yards. He also had 50 yards passing on a first-quarter touchdown throw to tight end Chris Manhertz.
