CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers have reached a contract agreement with running back Chuba Hubbard, an NFL league source confirmed to WCNC Charlotte's Nick Carboni.
Hubbard's new contract is a four-year, $33 million extension with $15 million guaranteed, a league source confirmed.
Hubbard has been a bright spot for the Panthers and is on his way to a career-best season. The former fourth-round pick has rushed for 665 yards and 5 touchdowns through nine games. Hubbard had the second multi-score game of his career against New Orleans Sunday, scoring twice in the 23-22 victory. Hubbard's 73.9 yards rushing per game is 13th in the league.
Head coach Dave Canales has raved about Hubbard since joining the Panthers and the front office is rewarding their reliable back with this contract.
The extension comes as Carolina prepares for its first game in Germany against the New York Giants on Sunday. The team announced that rookie running back Jonathan Brooks was added to the active 53-man roster. Brooks hasn't played since tearing his ACL while playing for the University of Texas last November. He was taken in the second round of this year's draft.
Sunday's game against the Giants will be broadcast on WCNC Charlotte. Kickoff is set for 9:30 a.m., immediately following WCNC Charlotte's Munich kickoff special at 8 a.m.
