CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers are adding weapons for Bryce Young.
Wide receiver Diontae Johnson was traded to the Panthers on Tuesday from the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The Panthers are also receiving a seventh-round pick in the deal. In exchange, the Panthers are sending cornerback Donte Jackson and a sixth-round pick to the Steelers.
Johnson has spent his full five-year career with Pittsburgh.
Johnson caught 59 passes for 717 yards and five touchdowns in 13 games in 2023 on what was viewed as a sluggish offense. His best season came in 2021 when he caught 107 passes for 1161 yards and eight touchdowns in a Pro Bowl campaign.
The Panthers are hoping Johnson can be a good option for Young alongside Adam Thielen, who by far led the team in 2023 with 103 receptions as essentially Carolina's only good option in the passing game.
Jackson has spent all six years of his career with the Panthers. He has 14 career interceptions and has been a staple on the Carolina secondary since he was taken in the second round in 2018.
