CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Panthers fans got a first look at quarterback Cam Newton rehabbing on the sideline during practice Tuesday.
Ron Rivera told media on Monday that they would likely see Newton out on the practice field, but this is the first time we've seen Newton in his number 1 jersey since the Panthers lost to the Buccaneers in game 2 of the series.
"Cam is going to continue his rehab," Rivera said. "As I told you guys last week, we're not putting any pressure on Cam. He's done a great job doing the things that we've asked of him. He's gone above and beyond in terms of working with our quarterbacks and helping them along the way. He's just going to continue to do his program."
The Assistant Director of digital media and broadcasting for the Panthers, Bill Voth, tweeted a video of Newton with the caption "a step in the #process..."
Rivera has already announced that backup quarterback, Kyle Allen, will start for the Panthers when they take on the San Franciso 49ers this Sunday.
Kyle Allen has been shining as the Panthers starting quarterback since week 3, when he got his second career NFL start during the game in Arizona.
