CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former Carolina Panthers linebacker Dan Morgan is a candidate for the team's open general manager position, a league source confirmed to WCNC Charlotte on Tuesday.
Morgan spent the last three seasons as the team's assistant general manager under recently fired Scott Fitterer.
The 45-year-old has served in several front office and scouting positions with the Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills since 2010.
Morgan was selected 11th overall by the Panthers in the 2001 NFL draft after a college career at Miami that landed him in the College Football Hall of Fame.
In seven seasons with the Panthers, Morgan racked up 390 tackles, 7 sacks, 6 fumble recoveries, 3 forced fumbles and 5 interceptions. He made the Pro Bowl in 2004.
Just hours after Fitterer's firing on Monday, Carolina also requested interviews with the following league executives for the open GM role.

- Champ Kelly, Raiders interim GM
- Mike Disner, Lions chief operating officer
