Panthers lose to Falcons, fall to 1-5

Carolina was outscored 16-3 in the second half.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Atlanta Falcons rushed for over 200 yards as they bested the Carolina Panthers in an NFC South matchup.

Atlanta (4-2) won 38-20 thanks largely to a lopsided second half where Carolina (1-5) was outscored 16-3.

Tyler Allgeier had 105 yards rushing and Bijan Robinson had 95 yards rushing for the Falcons.

Carolina's offense reignited on Sunday after a slow game against the Bears in Week 5. Dalton completed 26 of 38 passes for 221 yards passing and two touchdowns. Dalton also threw two interceptions in the fourth quarter. Chuba Hubbard gained 92 yards rushing for the Panthers.

The Panthers struck first with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Dionte Johnson in the first quarter. Atlanta responded with a Bijan Robinson touchdown run to tie the game.

Falcons receiver Ray-Ray McCloud fumbled while extending for yardage in the second quarter, giving the Panthers a big opportunity at points. The Panthers settled for a field goal after failing to score a touchdown from the 5-yard line.

Atlanta responded with a touchdown on their next drive courtesy of another Robinson run. The Falcons entered scoring territory with a 52-yard pass from Cousins to tight end Kyle Pitts. Tyler Allgeier scored a two-point conversion for the Falcons to put Atlanta up 15-10.

The Falcons added to their lead minutes later with a touchdown pass from Cousins to Drake London.

Carolina closed the second half with a late touchdown drive capped off by a Dalton touchdown pass to rookie receiver Xavier Legette.
