CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers announced that they signed free agent kicker Chandler Catanzaro Friday while starter Graham Gano deals with a left knee injury.
In a press release, the Panthers said Catanzaro will be available if Gano is unable to play Sunday at Cleveland. Catanzaro was released by Tampa Bay after missing two field goals against Washington last month. Offensive lineman Amini Silatolu was placed on injured reserve to make room for Catanzaro on the active roster.
Earlier this season, Catanzaro set an NFL record by kicking a 59-yard field goal to defeat Cleveland. That kick was the longest overtime field goal in league history. Catanzaro spent his first four seasons in the NFL with Arizona before signing with the New York Jets last season.
