ACC blasted for claiming Stanford grad Katie Ledecky's Olympic success

The 13-time Olympic medalist graduated from Stanford in 2021 when the school competed in the Pac-12.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Praise continues to come Katie Ledecky's way as she breaks Olympic records and wins medals in Paris.

One source of admiration has been met with jeers from the public. The Charlotte-based Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) posted a graphic on Wednesday congratulating Ledecky with a Stanford logo and the phrase "Olympians made here" near the ACC logo.

Commenters immediately took shots at the conference for claiming that Ledecky played for an ACC school. Stanford's first season with the ACC will be in 2024. The school was in the Pac-12 conference when Ledecky attended.

Some people jokingly called the post "stolen valor."

The ACC didn't stop there, though, with reposts of Katie Ledecky content throughout Wednesday and Thursday.

The NCAA added fuel to the fire by placing the ACC at the top of the conference medal count on Thursday, including Ledecky's medals for the ACC.

Commenters rallied once again in defense of the Pac-12 to no avail.

Ledecky has won three medals so far in the Paris Olympics, scoring one gold, one silver, and one bronze. She now has 13 Olympic medals, surpassing Jenny Thompson to become the most decorated female American Olympian. She will hold the most gold medals of any American woman if she can win one more gold.
