Charlotte Paralympian on the way to Paris, making a pit stop to give a gift to those who gave him the gift of life

Before heading out, he made a very special pit stop.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Charlotte triathlete Carson Clough will soon make his way to Paris to the compete in the 2024 Paralympics. He lost his leg in a boating accident in Lake Norman a few years back, but said nothing would stop him.

As he stands with his friends and family who had his back since the beginning, he looks at a different team that stood across the room at the Mooresville Volunteer Fire Department. 

“I can say thank you," Clough said. “I’m able to do that because you guys.”

The women and men of the Lake Norman Volunteer Fire Department, EMS, and Mooresville Fire-Rescue got him out of the water and to the hospital years ago. He wanted to see the faces of those who rescued him.

He gave them a gift of his own, too. He framed his Team USA suit for them as a reminder that they changed his life that day, and he is forever thankful.
