The gold marks the first medal Germany has ever earned in a basketball event. Germany’s best finish was seventh in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics in the men’s basketball competition before the Paris Olympics. The German men’s basketball team bettered that mark in 2024 by reaching the semifinals -- the team faces France on Thursday. Germany's women’s team will play in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Team USA won bronze with a 16-13 win over Canada.
