Kosovo, Uzbekistan make Olympics history in women's judo final

Kosovo earned its first-ever silver medal. Uzbekistan scored its first women's Summer Olympics gold medal.

PARIS, France — Uzbekistan's Diyora Keldiyorova beat Kosovo's Distria Krasniqi in the women's -52kg judo final as both athletes made Olympic history for their nations.

Keldiyorova became the first woman to score a gold medal for Uzbekistan in the Summer Olympics. The only other woman to earn a medal for Uzbekistan was Ekaterina Khilko in the 2008 Beijing Summer Games in a women's trampoline event. Lina Cheryazova earned Uzbekistan's only Winter Olympics gold medal in the 1994 Lillehammer Games.

Meanwhile, Krasniqi earned the first-ever silver medal for Kosovo with her performance. It's just the fourth medal all-time for Kosovo -- the previous three were gold medals in judo. Kransniqi earned gold at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
