PARIS, France — One day after helping Team USA set a new world record in the mixed 4x400 relay in the Paris Olympics, Charlotte native Kaylyn Brown was back in action on Saturday for the finals.
Brown, who was a track star at Mallard Creek High School before joining the University of Arkansas team, raced alongside American runners Vernon Norwood, Shamier Little and Bryce Deadmon in Saturday's final.
The U.S. was tied for the lead with Belgium when Deadmon handed the baton to Brown for the final leg. Brown initially sped away from the pack but could not keep them all behind her as Femke Bol of the Netherlands passed Brown in the closing stretch to win the gold medal. Bol's anchor split was an astonishing 47.93 seconds.
While the U.S. team finished with silver, their world record remains intact. The Netherlands team finished the final with a time of 3:07.43, 2 hundredths slower than the record.
Brown will return to the track on Monday for the women's 400 meters.
