CHARLOTTE, NC - Minutes after being selected by the Carolina Panthers in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, wide receiver DJ Moore hopped on a phone call with Charlotte media members.
The former Maryland standout was the first wide receiver off the board and the 24th overall pick in the draft.
Some quick thoughts from the Panthers new wide receiver are below:
His reaction to the pick:
"It's going crazy, but I'm ecstatic. I'm happy, cried a little but I'm happy."
The phone call:
"I spoke to the head coach and the general manager, and it was just a sigh of relief to be able to get that call. Once I saw North Carolina come up on my phone it was like, 'Ok, this is the pick.' They told me on the draft visit that they was going to do it, and they kept their promise so I was happy with that."
On playing with Cam Newton:
"That's everybody's dream to do that. Just going there, and getting to work with him is something real."
On his strengths:
"Running after the catch, right off the bat."
On Steve Smith's comments about being the first guy to replace him:
"That's kind of great coming from him. I just got to go in there and play my game. If he said that, that's a high honor. But I'm just going to go in there and be the best me."
On if he can be a Week 1 starter:
"If I put the work in and get it all down packed, yes I do."
