PORTLAND, Ore. -- Congrats to the Rowan County 11 and 12-year-old girl's softball team for winning the 2015 Little League World Series title in Portland.
Ellen Yang had an RBI single to kick off a four-run first inning and Rowan County beat Rhode Island 4-2 Wednesday night in the championship game of the Little League Softball World Series.
Kali Morton of Mooresville allowed two runs on four hits over six innings for the Salisbury-based team, representing the Southeast in the annual event. She struck out three.
The team from Salisbury lost only once during the round-robin pool play.
North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory congratulated the team after the win on Wednesday.
