Agyemang's late goal gives Charlotte FC draw with Columbus Crew

Charlotte remains sixth in the Eastern Conference with 10 games to go in the regular season.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus Crews's goalkeeper Nicholas Hagen whiffed on a save attempt at the edge of the penalty box, allowing Patrick Agyemang to put away an easy goal that proved the difference for Charlotte FC.

Agyemang's score came in the 83rd minute and led to the match finishing in a 1-1 draw. Charlotte chiseled at the Columbus defense throughout the match but was only able to come up with the one score.

The Crew's only goal came in the first half after a defensive error by Charlotte. Adilson Malanda made an ill-advised pass in the penalty area that was intercepted by Cucho Hernandez, who quickly pounced on the opportunity with a strike that found the net.

A weather delay halted the match during halftime as storms moved over the Columbus area.

Agyemang took a long pass from defender Bill Tuiloma in the 83rd minute that left him one-on-one with a Columbus defender. As the ball bounced forward, Hagen attempted to kick it away but missed the ball. Agyemang was left alone against the defender and after some quick moves, shot the ball into the net between Hagen's legs.

Columbus outshot Charlotte 21-12, and 8-6 with shots on goal. The Crew also greatly controlled possession, handling the ball for almost 69% of the match.

The draw leaves Charlotte sixth in the Eastern Conference, halting the opportunity to move up the ladder after Saturday's impressive win over FC Cincinnati. Charlotte sits 10 points above the playoff cutline with 10 matches to go.

Charlotte FC is next in action against Austin FC on the road on Saturday.
