CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Soccer was back at Bank of America Stadium on Saturday. Charlotte FC was under the stadium lights after weeks off, hosting the New York Red Bulls to get back into MLS action.
It wasn't quite a win, but also not a loss. Both teams instead drew the match out.
The scoring happened early, with Charlotte striker Karol Świderski knocking a goal in during a penalty kick just 13 minutes in. But New York had an answer soon after, with striker Elias Manoel getting an assist from forward/winger Dante Vanzeir to tie it up 1-1.
Halftime came and went with neither site getting ahead of the other. Both teams made a series of substitutions in the second half, which included Charlotte FC bringing in new midfielder Pep Biel onto pitch. He was, however, handed a yellow card at the 69-minute mark.
It wouldn't be the last time Charlotte FC was handed a yellow card either; fellow midfielder Júnior Urso was handed one as the match entered stoppage time.
Neither Charlotte nor New York could break the tied score as time ticked on. Both teams drew to 1-1 and left the pitch with one MLS standing point each.
Charlotte is back home next Saturday, August 31, to face off against Atlanta United FC. Historically, Charlotte holds a 3-2 win record against Atlanta. When the two teams last met, Charlotte rallied to a 3-2 win on the road.
