Charlotte FC goalkeeper honored with MLS year-end award

He is the first Charlotte FC player to earn an individual year-end-award with Major League Soccer.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte FC goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina has been named the 2024 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year. 

He is the first Charlotte FC player and the first Croatian to earn an individual year-end award with Major League Soccer. Kahlina is also the fourth European to be named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year. 

Kahlina is the first Charlotte FC player to have played every minute in a season, and he topped off the most recent season with 121 saves and 12 shutouts.

When compared to other qualifying MLS goalkeepers from this season, he ranks in the top five for save percentage, shutouts, minutes played, goals against average and saves. 

The honor was voted on by MLS club technical staff as well as current MLS players and media. Kahlina received 34.88% of the total vote. Finalists Hugo Lloris with LAFC came in second with 10.69% of the total vote and Patrick Schulte with Columbus Crew came in third with 9.66% of the total vote.
