CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte FC suffered their worst loss of the year with a dreadful shutout loss to Minnesota United FC, snapping a 13-match undefeated streak at Bank of America Stadium.
Minnesota scored one goal in the first half and added two in the second half to leave the Queen City with a dominant 3-0 victory. Charlotte had just one shot on goal in the match as the team's offense failed to produce any meaningful chances.
Forward Tani Oluwaseyi scored first for Minnesota in the 31st minute. Oluwaseyi took a deep cross from just outside the penalty area and took a wide shot right away that snuck into the bottom left corner of the net.
Minnesota's next goal was a thing of team chemistry beauty as Franco Fragapane took a pass in the box and immediately flicked it to a pursuing Robin Lod, who fired a strike to put Minnesota up 2-0 early in the second half.
Just a few minutes later, Lod converted a corner kick into a goal with a header from Hassani Dotson for Minnesota's third goal of the match.
Charlotte's only shot on goal came on a corner kick in the first half. Defender Bill Tuiloma headed the cross toward the net but Minnesota easily saved it.
The loss drops Charlotte FC to ninth in the MLS Eastern Conference standings. It's the third shutout loss this season for Dean Smith's side. Charlotte's last loss at home came in May 2023 against Nashville SC.
Charlotte FC's next match is on the road against New York City FC on Saturday, April 27.
