Charlotte FC gets much-needed shutout win against New England

Rising stars and team staples made up the black and blue's unquestioned victory happen.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte FC needed a win Saturday.

The team fell by at least one point in its last three matches, one of them at home. The black and blue were back at Bank of America Stadium for a sunny afternoon face-off with the New England Revolution, itching for victory.

What happened was an absolute shutout win for Charlotte, featuring goals from both newcomers and veteran team members.

Liel Abada, a midfielder for the black and blue who was added to the roster in March 2024, found the net first at 39 minutes in. At the half, Charlotte was up 1-0.

Fellow midfielder Pep Biel, another newcomer to Charlotte FC who joined in August 2024, was able to score with an assist from veteran striker Patrick Agyemang 65 minutes into the match. Just 12 minutes later, the duo teamed up again to hit the net, this time with Biel assisting Agyemang.

The final score of the night came from veteran Charlotte striker Kerwin Vargas with an assist from forward Iuri Tavares. The clock ticked on, and New England had no answer to any of Charlotte's goals. In fact, the only thing New England would get from the match was a red card for left winger Dylan Borrero, given after a second yellow card at the 70-minute mark.

Final score at the bank: Charlotte FC with four goals, New England zero.

Charlotte is on the road again on Saturday, Sept. 28, to take on Inter Miami CF. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. Eastern.
