RICHMOND, Va. — The dream for a US Open Cup remains alive for the Queen City.
Charlotte FC won 5-1 against the Richmond Kickers during the US Open Cup Round of 32 Wednesday night.
Charlotte FC now advances to the Round of 16.
The squad got on the board early thanks to Daniel Rios knocking in a 34th-minute strike. Richmond was able to tie things up in the 53rd minute with a score from Zacarías Morán Correa.
Charlotte FC responded by scoring four goals unanswered to wrap up the contest. Yordy Reyna gave Charlotte the lead just a minute later after Richmond tied it up. McKinze Gaines scored back-to-back goals while Andre Shinyashki netted the final goal in the 86th minute.

Charlotte FC and Richmond was among eight games on the docket for the Round of 32 on Wednesday. The Round of 16 is scheduled for May 24-25.
The US Open Cup was canceled in 2020 and 2021 because of COVID-19 but it is back to full operations this year with the finals set for either Sept. 6-7 or Sept. 13-14.
Charlotte FC will also be back in action on Saturday, May 14, with a 7 p.m. match against Montreal at Bank of America Stadium.
