VANCOUVER, BC — Charlotte FC was up north Saturday for the team's first road match of the 2024 season, revisiting Vancouver Whitecaps FC. While the black and blue still have a win against Vancouver from May 2022 in their record, Saturday's match ended in a draw.
The first goal of the night was made 31 minutes into the match, courtesy of Charlotte forward Iuri Tavares. It was also his first goal in the MLS, just a week after Tavares made his debut in a league match. Tavares was called up from Charlotte's MLS NEXT Pro team, Crown Legacy FC. During his sole season with Crown Legacy in 2023, he appeared 26 times and made 12 goals.
Vancouver would answer as the first half ticked into stoppage time, with a goal from wingback Ryan Raposo. However, neither team could break the draw, even as the match continued into stoppage time after halftime.
At the end of the night, Charlotte and Vancouver left the pitch 1-1, sharing a league standing point each.
The black and blue will stick around in Canada a bit longer; they'll face Toronto FC on March 9, kicking off at 2 p.m. Eastern time. In the last three meetings, Toronto has two wins while Charlotte has one, with a draw between them both.
