CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Just three days ago, Charlotte FC punched its ticket to the MLS playoffs with a key win against Chicago Fire.
This week, the team added another win to its record, made its playoffs path much easier, and tacked on three more points for the standings after a shutout win against CF Montreal.
Striker Karol Świderski found the net for the black and blue's first goal of the night, kicking it in at the 34-minute mark. It would be some time, however, before the score changed.
In fact, the next goal wouldn't be made until after 90 minutes of play and at four minutes of stoppage time. Still, striker Patrick Agyemang got an assist from midfielder Brandt Bronico, slamming in another goal for Charlotte.
Montreal had no answer to either goal throughout the match. The black and blue defended the home pitch again, 2-0 over the the visiting neighbors from up north.
Saturday's win makes Charlotte's path in the MLS playoffs easier. Instead of dealing with the play-in, the team will play a best-of-three playoff series.
Charlotte FC has one last match in the regular season in two weeks. They'll hit the road on Saturday, Oct. 19 to take on D.C. United. The record between both teams is even, with two wins each and a draw shared between them.
