Uruguay will meet Colombia in the Copa América semifinals at Bank of America Stadium in Uptown Charlotte on Wednesday. The highly anticipated match features two of the world's best teams, with the winner clinching a spot in the finals against Lionel Messi and Argentina.
The match will begin at 8 p.m. and tickets are still available, but anyone looking for a last-minute deal will likely be disappointed. Tickets can be had for around $230 but that's before fees. As the match gets closer, those prices could get even higher due to last-minute demand.
Copa América semifinals street closures
Road closures around Bank of America Stadium will begin at 9 a.m.
- Brooklyn Village Avenue between Church Street and Mint Street
- South Mint Street between Morehead Street and South Graham Street
This event will be just like Charlotte FC and Carolina Panthers games regarding road closures. Additional street closures will begin throughout the day as crowds make their way to the stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Uruguay vs. Colombia preview
Uruguay is two wins away from a record-setting 16th Copa America title. But to get there, they'll have to defeat red-hot Colombia, which has gone 27 consecutive matches without a loss.
The winner will face Argentine, which beat Canada 2-0 in the other semifinal on Sunday in Miami.
Uruguay is led by Manuel Ugarte, who scored the winning goal in the fifth round in a 4-2 penalty kick win over Brazil in the quarterfinals. The team will be without two of its best players, as Nahitan Nández picked up a red card against Brazil and defender Ronald Araújo suffered a muscle injury. Both will miss Wednesday's match.
Colombia comes to Charlotte on the heels of a dominant 5-0 win over Panama. Jhon Córdoba, James Rodríguez and Luis Díaz all scored in the first half, allowing Colombia to cruise to victory. Colombia has outscored its opponents 11-2 so far in the tournament.
More soccer in the Queen City
In addition to hosting Wednesday's semifinal match, Bank of America Stadium will be the site of the third-place playoff match on July 13. Canada will take on the loser of Wednesday's match.
Charlotte FC will also be in action on July 13 at Cincinnati. The club doesn't have another home match until the group stage of Leagues Cup 2024, when it hosts Cruz Azul on July 31.
