Why iPhone batteries should be replaced now

The cost to replace batteries for iPhone, iPad and Mac computers is increasing in March.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — If an iPhone's battery isn't what it used to be, now is the time to replace it.

Apple is raising the price to replace batteries for nearly all iPhone, iPad and Mac computers starting March 1.

Tech site 9to5Mac reported replacements for all iPhones other than the iPhone 14 will go up by $20 to $69 -- a 40% increase.

It'll be a 23% price hike to get a new battery in Macbook Air models with that replacement increasing by $30 to $159. A new battery for a Macbook Pro will cost $50 more when the price rises 25% from $199 to $249. Replacement batteries on most iPads will increase by 20% from $99 to $119.

And even if battery power isn't an issue now, it still can be on the horizon.

Apple support states, " ... over time, the rechargeable batteries in all iPhone models will diminish in their capacity and peak performance and will eventually need to be replaced."

There are a few options when replacing a battery—going into Apple stores, using an online mail-in service or bringing it to an authorized Apple reseller.
