CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Wednesday, volunteers planted 39 trees in Fred Alexander Park in west Charlotte.
The effort by TreesCharlotte and Crete United came after the six acre park underwent renovations as part of Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation's Equity Park funding. The renovations led to the removal of some of the trees already at the park.
The park now has basketball, a picnic shelter, a community garden, the county's first paved pump track, and more.
Crete United said it has a goal of having a having a Net Zero Carbon Fleet by 2040.
"Each tree we plant contributes towards the goal of addressing the environmental impact from our Scope 1 emissions," Crete United said in a release. "We appreciate the opportunity to engage our leaders and team members with a planting event with Trees Charlotte."
